WHAT IS OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY?
Occupational therapists work with people who have sustained an injury or are managing a chronic condition. The goal is to facilitate maximal involvement in daily tasks and activities and regain as much function as possible.
Occupational therapists (LOTs) provide interventions to promote conservative healing, preventative care and post-surgical rehabilitation for a wide variety of upper extremity disorders. Some examples of diagnosis's that OTs can treat include carpal tunnel, tendonitis, bone fractures, arthritis, rotator cuff injuries, strains and sprains and more. OTs often also work with stroke and TBI patients to regain function and improve strength or tone.
They also provide consultation in workplace or childcare ergonomics, can fabricate custom orthotics, provide management of pain and swelling as well as wound and scar care.
MEET YOUR THERAPIST:
PAULA SOMMERHALDER, OTR/L, HTC, CEAS I
Licensed Occupational Therapist, Advanced Hand Therapy Certification, Certified Ergonomic Assessment Specialist
I’ve been successfully rehabilitating clients throughout the Los Angeles area and facilitating their maximum involvement in life since 2012. People often ask me what I do for work and when I tell them I am a Occupational Therapist, 3 out of every 4 people report having at least one ongoing upper extremity condition. Regardless of if you sustained an injury or not, if you are feeling pain, discomfort, clicking, popping, tingling, numbness in your arms and/or hands, I can help!
Whether you have been referred to an Occupational Therapist by a physician or you are looking for a recommendation about your condition, I am here for you. Most conditions can be treated non-surgically and I will be honest with you if I believe that it cannot. Often our body is just screaming out for a little TLC. So come on, what are you waiting for!?

“We find only one tool, neither created nor invented, but perfect: the hand of man.”
